Below The Surface

“Nothing changes if nothing changes”

As I was vacuuming the steps this morning, I noticed the railings.  It reminded me that I needed to repaint them.  Something said, “why not just take a damp cloth and wipe them off”.  I thought to myself why not.  As I begin to wipe them off, I was so disgusted at how much dirt was on the railings.  It was not even the fact that I needed to touch it up with paint but that it needed to be cleaned off. My youngest daughter was coming down the steps and I said do you see how clean this is?  She said, “was all of that dirt?”  I replied, “yes.  We were both surprised and disgusted. So, we know we need to clean them off more often.

I went back to finish cleaning the steps and as I was cleaning in the crease of the steps the Lord started dealing with me about how we are sometimes ok with just dealing with the surface things in our life. Dealing with the surface does not require much work nor does it allow us to walk in total freedom. We appear to look like we have it all together and we are a mess, we appear to be ok and when we are not, we appear to be happy and we are miserable or we appear to be well and we are really sick. We do not want anyone to know that we are silently suffering, and it is killing us.

“What is being manifested on the surface is the overflow of what has existed underneath”

The things that normally surface to the top are the things that have already being existing from within.  Currently we are in a pandemic and the death of yet another black man that has now started a Revolution is finally causing us to deal with what has always been. Racism at its best and a systemic system that needs to be broken. Although this did not begin with George Floyd, it has lit a fire to start the process of some necessary changes as well as healing. Our nation has appeared to be well and we have been sick for a long time. It is now starting to rear its ugly head.

For things to progress and change we can no longer just deal with the surface. What is on the surface is not the real issue and it will only bring temporary healing. We must dig deep and pull it up from the root. The system they created is working the way it is supposed to. Until a system that was never created for us changes and we get rid of the people who continue to work that same system, we will continue this same fight.

“Keep thy heart with all dilligience; for out of it are the issues of life” Proverbs 4:23

Before there can be a true change in a nation there also has to be a change within us.  This is also shinning a light on where we are individually and our need for change. The true work begins within. Then we can be more effective to the change in our homes, our community, and our nation.

My prayer is that you would allow God to deal with the root of those things that keep surfacing to the top, so that you can walk in total freedom and victory. That you would have the motivation and strength to do the work needed so that you can be free.

I May Become Cracked But I’m Not Easily Broken

^^^^VIDEO DEMONSTRATION ^^^^

When you look at the anatomy of an egg it has 8 layers.  The outer layer which is it’s shell protects you from getting to the inside of it.  In order to get to the inside you would have to literally break it open.  Though it’s outer shell can become cracked it can still stay in tack due to the layers that is underneath it’s shell. Even if the egg becomes broken it can still be used.  When an egg is boiled it increases the strength in the layers of the egg and makes it even harder for you to get into.  Even if you crack the egg you still have to peel back it’s shell and break into it’s other layers before you could ever get to the center of the egg.  The enemies job is to keep what’s on the inside of you from growing and being produced. In order for him to even destroy what’s on the inside of you he would have to breakthrough the many layers of you which is your mind, your heart and break your spirit. He knows if you ever produce what is on the inside of you his kingdom would be destroyed.  The more that you strengthen your inner man it becomes harder for him to break through in your life. A long this journey you may become cracked, but  it is from the cracks in life that we draw strength and builds up our resistance.  In time all wounds heal.  Though they may leave a scar it is an outward testimony that you survived and have overcome a fall.  The thing about the fall is that you may have become cracked, but your not easily broken.

Broken, But Not Beyond Repair

image

I was on my way home from work the other day and it was pouring down rain so bad that I had to turn on the wind shield wipers just so that I could see.  My back wind shield wipers haven’t been working properly and will work when they want to. I decided to try to see if they would work and of course they didn’t.  I have known that they have needed to be fixed for sometime now, but because I have never really had to use them that much has delayed me in doing so. In order for me to go have them looked at may require me possibly taking some time off of work and money that I don’t necessarily have at the moment. The motor probably has gone bad in it which won’t take much to have it fixed, but according to it’s importance to me at this moment gets put on the back burner.  If it ain’t broke than don’t fix it right?  Though that maybe a minor issue if our mindset continues to follow that pattern that is how you will view something’s of great importance and needs immediate attention in your life to which not only causes you to make hasty decisions, but the wrong ones. How do you process the things that are broken in your life?  Not everything that is broken needs to be fixed, but not everything that is broken needs to be thrown away. When something stops working it’s easy to try to get something new to replace it; however, new doesn’t always mean that it is better. Something’s may just need minor adjustments, a little more time, effort and work. More times than not we make the assumption that what is broken is unfixable, we want invest the time to see what’s wrong or what went wrong and throw it away. We place more value on something that is new when the real value is in what we invest into over a period of time. Don’t be so willing to throw away something because it stops working before you find out why it stopped working in the 1st place and see if it’s worth saving at all. Treasure is never found on the surface, but underneath the ground.  You will never discover it unless you are willing to invest the time in finding it.  Some of us stay in a place of brokenness because we are seeking the wrong thing(s) to be fixed. The good news is though you maybe broken you are never broken beyond repair. Let the potter put you back together again.

Even Damaged Goods

Never Be Same by Shana Wilson & Tasha Cobb

When your buying fresh fruit it is originally whole. It’s not torn apart into pieces, damaged for the most part, but intact and complete. If you were to start peeling away the skin it would no longer be whole, but in parts. You could try to piece it back together but it would never be whole again. Some fruit may look damaged on the outside and in most cases would be overlooked because we would consider it damaged, rotten or no good. Like a banana it can get brown pretty quick on the outside, but when you pull back the skin it could be perfectly fine. Not all fruits are bad because of what they look like on the outside. It’s after you pull back the layer of skin and get to the core of it which is the best part and what will benefit you most. I am reminded of the nursery rhythm: Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and the Kings horses and all the Kings man couldn’t put Humpty together again. Yet we look to imperfect people to heal us when yet we have a righteous and all-powerful God. But even a broken egg can produce a meal. Some fresh fruits like peaches, pears and mangos you don’t want to buy them when they are still firm or hard because they won’t to be ready, but the longer you let them sit, over a period of time they become soft and you can smell their scent that means they are ready to be picked. It you pick or use anything before it’s time or out of its season it want taste as good and not only will it affect you, but everything that is connected to you. When you wait on the direct timing of God it will all fall in place. You may not see it initially or even feel that anything is happening, but if you follow His plan it’s working. #CLEANTHISHOUSE

Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places

Lost In You Again by Fred Hammomd

It wasn’t until I was in my late 30’s as I looked back over my life that I realized how much of me I had given away to the point that I no longer knew who I was. Most of my life I was searching for love or my idea of what I thought love was, but only to come up empty-handed and in most cases heartbroken with a life full of pain. I held high expectations of my father that was beyond what he was able to give me. I didn’t realize it then but he loved me based on what his perspective of love was and what he had been taught. Because my father was unable to give me what I thought I needed it put me into years of built up walls, anger, resentment, unhealthy and ungodly relationships. Over the course of my life on the outside I appeared as if everything was ok and carried myself as such, but on the inside I was breaking down. I looked for my daddy to take me out on a date, to go to a daddy/daughter dance, for it to be just me and my daddy. I still as an adult looked to hear his approval of me.So because I didn’t receive the love I taught I should have received from my father then I searched for it in other men in hoping that they would give me the love I needed. I was going from relationship to relationship and every time I gave of myself to someone who didn’t deserve that part of me I was loosing who I was. I ended in some relationships and situations that left me like the woman with the issue of blood an outcast, considered unclean. About time I realized it I was broken, damaged goods in need of a healer. It wasn’t another man or my father, but only Jesus Christ could heal me. It is never to late to be restored, to be mended, to be healed, but you have to go to the source which is Jesus Christ. After my divorce as I began to pick up the pieces of my life I did some soul-searching and that was when I realized that my biggest part of looking for love in all the wrong places is because I didn’t know what true love was. When I began to seek God with all my heart He began to show me what true love really was which taught me how to love myself and to be able to give and receive love. I had to take down my high expectations that no one would be able to reach and loving people for who they are and the level that they are on. Unconditional love which is the same love God has for us has no expectations. Sometimes we put people in the place of where God is meant to be. When we love God he will teach us how to love and when we love who we are we want to have to search for it, it will come and find us. #CLEANTHISHOUSE

The Finished Canvas

This too shall pass by India Arie

“For we know that all things work together for the good of them that love God and are called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28
If I would have never failed I wouldn’t know what it was like to overcome
If I was never sick I would never know what it means to be healed
If I would have never experienced a broken heart I would never known what it was like to be mended
If I never suffered I wouldn’t know what it means to endure
If I would have never gone without then I wouldn’t know that God will supply
If I never experienced a weak moment I would never know what it means to be strong
Somethings that we have gone through at the time didn’t show a good scenario or picture. At times it almost looked hopeless, but the more that we trusted God and followed His lead things still worked and in some cases better than what they were. Just like the painter in the beginning stages of the painting it may not even look appealing and it may even cause you to wonder how will it all come together, but once the picture was completed it turned out to be a masterpiece. God will take the broken pieces of our lives to make a masterpiece. It is because of our experiences in life that has caused us to be who we are today. Nothing that we have gone through in life goes wasted. He will still turn it around for our good. #CLEANTHISHOUSE
