Below The Surface

“Nothing changes if nothing changes”

As I was vacuuming the steps this morning, I noticed the railings.  It reminded me that I needed to repaint them.  Something said, “why not just take a damp cloth and wipe them off”.  I thought to myself why not.  As I begin to wipe them off, I was so disgusted at how much dirt was on the railings.  It was not even the fact that I needed to touch it up with paint but that it needed to be cleaned off. My youngest daughter was coming down the steps and I said do you see how clean this is?  She said, “was all of that dirt?”  I replied, “yes.  We were both surprised and disgusted. So, we know we need to clean them off more often.

I went back to finish cleaning the steps and as I was cleaning in the crease of the steps the Lord started dealing with me about how we are sometimes ok with just dealing with the surface things in our life. Dealing with the surface does not require much work nor does it allow us to walk in total freedom. We appear to look like we have it all together and we are a mess, we appear to be ok and when we are not, we appear to be happy and we are miserable or we appear to be well and we are really sick. We do not want anyone to know that we are silently suffering, and it is killing us.

“What is being manifested on the surface is the overflow of what has existed underneath”

The things that normally surface to the top are the things that have already being existing from within.  Currently we are in a pandemic and the death of yet another black man that has now started a Revolution is finally causing us to deal with what has always been. Racism at its best and a systemic system that needs to be broken. Although this did not begin with George Floyd, it has lit a fire to start the process of some necessary changes as well as healing. Our nation has appeared to be well and we have been sick for a long time. It is now starting to rear its ugly head.

For things to progress and change we can no longer just deal with the surface. What is on the surface is not the real issue and it will only bring temporary healing. We must dig deep and pull it up from the root. The system they created is working the way it is supposed to. Until a system that was never created for us changes and we get rid of the people who continue to work that same system, we will continue this same fight.

“Keep thy heart with all dilligience; for out of it are the issues of life” Proverbs 4:23

Before there can be a true change in a nation there also has to be a change within us.  This is also shinning a light on where we are individually and our need for change. The true work begins within. Then we can be more effective to the change in our homes, our community, and our nation.

My prayer is that you would allow God to deal with the root of those things that keep surfacing to the top, so that you can walk in total freedom and victory. That you would have the motivation and strength to do the work needed so that you can be free.

I Didn’t Know My Own Strength

As I was taking my girls to school the other morning, I was talking to them about the opportunities they have available to get their homework done instead of waiting until they get home.  I mentioned the ride on the bus and one of my girls said no because I might loose my paperwork and then she went on to say that they might rip up my paper. Some of those people on that bus are mean.  We then started talking about bullies. She agreed with what I had said and how they had just talked about that in class the day before. Bullies only have power because they prey on those that they think are weak and innocent. Their need of power and control is because of their own insecurities and weaknesses. In their own eyes they really see us as giants and themselves the size of a grasshopper which is intimidating, but in our own inabilities to recognize our own strength then are they able to gain control. Superman’s greatest moment wasn’t in the fact that he was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but the moment in which the kryptonite no longer had control over him. People and things gain control over us when we don’t know who we are and what we possess.  Proverbs 23:7 “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee” Bullying is a learned behavior and if that behavior is not addressed at an early age as an adult it turns into a great power of manipulations and control which we know is a form of witchcraft. It is sad to say, but bullies don’t just exist on the school ground, but they can be our church leaders, our spouses, our bosses, our family members, etc. and some don’t even realize what they are being controlled by. I am sure that in all of our lives at some point or another that we have walked in fear of these. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love, power and of a sound mind” Fear is not from God, but a work of the flesh and we don’t have to walk or live under that. You have the power to overcome anything with the help of the Lord. What is in you is greater than the force on the outside of you. The moment you can realize your own strength they become weak, helpless, powerless and loose all control over you. No one should EVER have that much power and control over you, but God.  Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who is against” There is a greater power that lives on the inside of you. You’re much stronger than you think.

The Power Of A Thought

One word that comes to mind is “THINK”,  which means:
*to have a particular opinion, beliefs, or idea about someone or something

*direct ones mind toward someone or something, uses one’s mind actively to form connected ideas
*call something to mind, remember *imagine
When you think about certain people or certain things it causes a reaction good or bad. For example, when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that he’s done for me my soul cries out Hallelujah. Just that thought could cause me to go into shout or a praise. It will cause my hands to go up, it may even cause tears to fall from my eyes. Like wise if I think of someone who has hurt me and I am not fully healed it may bring up pain, anger or take me into a not so good place.   Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”
What ever you keep replaying or rehearsing in your mind becomes a part of who you are. You give it power and cause it to come alive as that one thought can control or consume your life. You have power to take control over the thoughts that go on inside your mind. Once your thoughts enter into your heart it then produces into your life. Take control of them before they take control over you.

The Way You Love Me

Love by Musiq Soulchild

I have never been a materialist person, don’t get me wrong I love to be showered with gifts, to be sent flowers just because or to get an unexpected surprise when someone will just show up even for a moment to see you smile. I realized something greater than any materialist gift that anyone can give is the gift of love. The moment someone has opened up their heart to not only love you, but to be loved. You shouldn’t have to wait one day a year for someone to “show” you that they love you if so you may need to revisit why they are with you or better yet why are you with them. Holidays or special occasions should only enhance what they have done for you all year. Anyone can give you things and still not give you their heart. You should be able to look in their eyes and see that they care deeply for you, the way they look at you with such compassion and when they smile it brings warmth to your heart. They talk to you with such respect, they are detailed when it comes to caring for you. It’s not just what they say to you but how they say it or even in their silence you can hear their heart beat. When someone can give you their heart they have given you the greatest gift in the world because they are given you all of them. When they give you them they will move heaven and earth just to please you. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it’s not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always preservers. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they be stilled; where there is knowledge it will pass away.” Jesus could have called thousands of Angels to come and rescue him at any given point but because His unconditional love for us he suffered, hung on the cross, bleed and died and rose again just to save us. What greater love is this that a man would lay down his life for a friend. True love comes with no strings attached, with no conditions, but to give of themselves unconditionally. You may say well how will I know? Oh! You will know the moment they give you their heart, it will show in the way that they love you. #CLEANTHISHOUSE

When Your In One Place But Your Heart Is Some Where Else

My Life, My Love, My All by Kirk Franklin

Where your treasure is therefore your heart is also Matt 6:21
For sometime now I feel like I have been in this struggle of where I belong since the closing of my former church home. I have been in this place of searching or more like transition for what I felt was “home” For 37 years of my life I was in 1 place. Never went from church to church, because I was always taught to be committed where you are. Then God decided to disrupt my life in every way manageable with what felt like a stripping away, cutting back, pruning or surgery which all doesn’t feel good. Over the years I haven’t gotten comfortable with where I was whether it was my job, place to live, etc. because the moment I became comfortable here comes God shaking stuff up. Transition is always continual in life as we go from Glory to Glory. But what happens when you find yourself in a compromising state where you are in one place but your heart is somewhere else. You love where you are to some degree, but yet your unsettled, you haven’t found at one point you thought was “There”. You are still unfilled in the purpose of God for your life. When what’s in you has grown outside of where you are. It leaves you in an uneasy position or feeling like ok God what do I do now, do I leave or do I stay, but where shall I go. It’s like when you’re in a torn relationship. You know the time has come to end it, but instead of letting go you hang on. You become comfortable and settle. You become distant, on edge, irritable and you have no peace. You care about them, you even love them, but you’re not in love with them. Then there’s someone else who has peaked your interest. When you see them you get these butterflies in your stomach. There is this peace you feel when your around them. Your compatible in every way. Everything flows as if a perfect fit when sticking your hand into a glove that is the right size, your hands feel warm, secure and protected. Your desire to be with them becomes stronger the more you are around them or communicating with them. You get that gut feeling and the sense of yeah!this is the one, this is where I belong. Even in that you still have to use caution because everything that “feels” right doesn’t mean it is right. In all things we still have to consult the council of the most high God. In spite of what we feel we don’t want to make a hasty decision without the direction of God. It’s all in God’s timing and we must trust Him still. #CLEANTHISHOUSE
