I Know Who I Am

They say if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything. More than not we have all fallen for “the anything” more than once or twice in our life.

Do you ever wonder why is it time, after time, after time again we keep falling for the wrong things? Maybe it’s because our fathers never told us who we were when we were children, maybe because of our low self-esteem, maybe somewhere along the way we lost who we were if in fact we even knew who we were in the first place.

No matter how we got there or maybe here, it’s how do we get out, right.  Out of this cycle that leaves us heartbroken, busted and disgusted because we gave all of our hard earned money away playing the roll of house. Doing all of the wifely duets, oh wait when  again did we become married? Oh that’s right WE DIDN’T.

See I have been down that road before, gave my heart to the wrong one so I just moved on to the next one, but I didn’t learn from the last one. I’ve been married before and that didn’t work. Heartbroken because I  thought he was the one. So as a single parent I’m raising these children to the best of my ability.  Felt myself becoming a repeated affinder.

WAIT! I looked back to see how far I’ve come and decided going down that same path ain’t worth it. TREVA, GET YOURSELF TOGETHER!

The question was, how do I get out of the cycle of falling for anything?

Getting to know WHO YOU ARE and WHOSE ARE? Allowing God to heal those places that keep you falling into those same cycle. It is a process that we must go through.

For most of my life my identity was wrapped up in other people and other things to the point that I didn’t even recognize who I was. Such a dangerous place when you lay yourself totally in the hands of other people. It wasn’t until I trusted God with all the broken pieces of my life that I became confidient in who I am.
My parents named me Treva Nicole Barnard, but when I accepted Jesus Christ I became the Daughter of the King. Through him I found out I am:

worth it, more than a conquer, the righteousness of God, beautiful, strong, more than an overcomer, smart, intelligent, confidient, gifted, anointed, overcomer, loved, strong, loved beyond measure, head and not the tail, above and not beneath, lender and not the borrower and so much more.

It took me along time to figure it out, but now I know I don’t have to settle anymore. He has his very best in mind for me and when it’s time it will happen. I am in no rush. So I’ll wait….. Isaiah 40:31

Strength To Stand On My Own

image

Yesterday I was out watering my plants and when I came around to watering the Japanese Maple Tree I noticed that it had some what detached itself from the stick it was connected to.  In the beginning stages of growing a tree sometimes a stick is attached to the tree to keep it from growing crooked and until it is strong enough to stand on it’s own.  I planted the tree almost a year ago and I honestly didn’t think that it was going to make it because it wasn’t producing anymore leaves and the leaves that remained were falling off. Even the branches were dying on it. I kept watering it every other day and prayed that the roots would have settled and were strong enough to make it through the winter. I kept checking to see if there were any changes and there wasn’t anything. By spring it flourished and the leaves were beautiful as it stood looking healthy and strong.  As I looked closer at the tree the stick that was attached had snapped in half and some of the strings had come a loose.  That let me know that the tree had grown and it was strong enough to stand on it’s own.  So I removed the string and the stick.  I stood there for a moment just to make sure that it was able to stand on it’s own and sure enough it was.  That made me smile.  I was glad that I didn’t do what I had initally started to do which was to up root it and throw it away.  Just because you don’t see any evidence of life on the surface doesn’t mean that their isn’t anything growing underneath the soil.  Sometime’s the greatest things are produced in a dark place. Give it some time to be produced. Don’t give up on it just yet.  God will send people and things in ours lives to help us along the way, but if we aren’t careful they can become a crutch.  If we continue to use our crutches how will we know what we can do on our own.  Crutches can become a handicap when they are used past their season and we become so depended on it that we think that we need it survive.   At times God will remove the things that we have become depended on to hold us up (crutches) so that we can see just how strong we really are. Your greatest strength is sometimes found when you are finally able to stand on your own.

You Are Worth It

Life has a way of tearing you apart to the point that even to yourself you become unrecognizable.  Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror one day and wondered “Who Am I”  Sometime’s it isn’t until everything that you once depended on has been removed or to the point of rock bottom that you finally step away from the scene to refocus, re-evaluate your life as you find yourself of needing to hit the reset button and began again.  As easy as we would hope that could be it isn’t as easy as it seems.  When you have lost your identity through faults, failures, mistakes, opinions of other people while trying to fit in where they thought you should or who they wanted you to be and even when they created you they still didn’t want you. The process that you have to go through while on the road to recovery, healing, restoration and finding who you are again can be long and painful but is necessary for you to find your true identity and to be able to move forward in your life. The great thing is that in this journey and quest to finding out who you really are and who you were created to be doesn’t have to be done alone.  Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee”  It is when you seek your identity through the eyes of God and not through the eyes of man that you will find out who you really are.  I know that life has thrown you some unexpected blows or it could even be that you are in a place because of poor choices and bad decisions that you have made in your life, but you are never to far down that God can not reach you and you can never be to far removed to still receive his grace.  2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me”  No matter how many people have left you, abandoned you, dropped you, said you were nothing, would never be nothing or amount to anything God simply wanted me to remind you that YOU ARE WORTH IT and if you still have doubt or need more clarification that he does, remember that he died on the cross just for you and me. No matter what you’ve done, what’s been done to you or where you have been YOU ARE WORTH IT.  You are never to broken or too damaged beyond repair.  God still has need of thee, YOU ARE WORTH IT!
